Today's Lesson
Spelling
Take the spelling test by asking your student to write the words they have been learning this week.
Main Activity
You are now ready to begin the first assignment of Part 2. For the creative writing part of your assignment, you will be asked to create an acrostic poem.
Work with your student to plan and write the Acrostic Poem.
Ask your student to think about the poems they have been reading over the previous lessons. They should choose a topic to write their Acrostic Poem about. It could be based on a poem that they have read, or something different.
Ask them to use the Mind Map Template to plan their ideas, and then the Acrostic Poem Planner to write out a rough draft of their poem. At this point they should not worry about spellings and punctuation as this will be done at the editing stage.
Support them, then, to score themselves using the Acrostic Poem Rubric. Ask them to reflect on how well they think they have done with their initial ideas. Use the Acrostic Poem Rubric to guide them with how they can improve on their first attempt.
Ask them to choose at least TWO sentences to improve, looking for capital letters, full stops and synonyms (a similar but more powerful/interesting word). Remind them of the adjectives, adverbs and prepositions they have been learning about to make their poem more interesting.
They should then be challenged to create their final draft. This should be a really attractive poem which includes the improvements they have made, colourful presentation, and free of errors.
Assignment
You will need to submit your plan, edited first draft, and final draft for Assignment 4.
Good luck with your assignment!
