Spelling

For the remainder of Year 3 Part 2, use the Making Spellings MemorableΒ to focus on this week's spellings:

  • great/grate
  • groan/grown

Main Activity

Access Pinpoint Comprehension Unit 8.

Discuss the text with your student. Ask: is it fiction or non-fiction? How do we know? It is non-fiction. It is from an information book. There are facts included throughout the text. Take it in turns to read paragraphs of the text out loud, modelling good expression and fluency to your student, and expecting them to adopt this good practice themselves.

Discuss the text in detail by asking your student questions which check their understanding. Ask them several questions which start with β€˜Why...?’ to encourage them to infer and deduce information.

Underline any new words and phrases, and discuss their meaning, encouraging the use of a traditional dictionary to look up unfamiliar words. Read and answer the questions on the S sheet.

Afterwards, reflect on the answers with your student and compare with those on the answer sheet.
