  • usually
  • completely
  • finally
  • comically
  • happily
  • angrily

  1. Sadly there was no snow.
  2. I usually go swimming on Saturdays.
  3. She was completely tired out.
  4. Finally they got to the beach.
  5. He was always behaving comically.
  6. She skipped happily.
  7. She closed the door angrily.

Introduction

Explain to your student that this week you will be creating an information leaflet.  Have they ever seen one? Do they know what they look like? What do they think all information leaflets must have? Feel free to fill out a KWL chart to keep track of what your child already knows.

Main Activity

Next open your Year 3 CGP Comprehension Book to pages 12 and 13 Daddy Fell into the Pond. (Note may be Pages 10 & 11 in some textbook versions.)

Read through ‘Let’s Get Growing!’ and discuss with your student. What do they notice about the layout (paragraphs, sub headings in bold letters).

Ask: Why do you think the article has these features? (It makes it easier for us to locate specific information.) Where might we find other information leaflets? (At a hotel when on holiday, the doctor’s office, etc)

Finally, read and discuss the questions.
