Spelling

Review spelling words to prepare for your test at the end of the week.ย  Use Spelling Frame Spelling Tiles and Segment Puzzle to learn this week's words.

Main Activity

Explain to your student that the next assignment will ask them to write their own myth. Ask your student what they already know about myths and legends. Have they read any? Can they name any? Can they name the features of a myth or a legend? Explain to your student that myths are traditional stories set a long time ago. They often give explanations for the way things are and have magical elements.

Explain that myths and legends are very similar types of story. Use theย Comparing Myths and Legends resource sheetto find the features of both text types. Complete the activity sorting the features in to the Venn diagram. Ask your student to explain the similarities and differences between myths and legends.

Access and read as many of ย Text 1,ย Text 2,ย Text 3ย andย Text 4ย  as you can. With your student, read the texts. Try to label each short text as Myth / Legend / Fable. Ask, 'How do you know the text type?', 'Which features of the text type can you see?'

By the end of the lesson, your student should be able to tell you some features of a myth.
