Recounts | Newspaper Reports

Objectives

To read and explore newspaper reports, looking at their key features.

Resources

Any local newspaper | Markers | Large paper or poster board | Completed KWL chart

Today's Lesson

Spelling

Take the spelling test by asking your student to write the words they have been learning this week.

Main Activity

Ask your student if they can remember any of the features they have learnt so far about newspaper articles (headline; by-line; columns; paragraphs; sub-heading; photo/image; facts; 5Ws). If necessary remind them and show them the work they have completed this week as well as their KWL chart.

Today your student is going to start creating a poster that outlines the features of a newspaper report. It will not be completed today as it will only include the features we have discussed so far.

To do this, your student will need a large sheet of paper or poster board, a ruler and coloured pencils or markers. They should aim to make it look attractive and easy to read so that in the future they can use it as a learning resource.
