Today's Lesson
Main Activity
Today your student will write out his or her instructions using the planning sheet completed in yesterday’s lesson. Allow your student to do this on his or her own if possible.
📄 PREPARE - Instructions Planning 1
📄 PREPARE - Instructions Planning 2
📄 EXPLORE - Instructions Example 1
📄 EXPLORE - Instructions Example 2
Once finished, someone should carry out the instructions to make sure that they make sense and work. Ask your student: How well did the instructions work? Were they in the right order? Were they specific enough? Do any words need to be added to make the instructions clearer? Make any necessary changes so that the instructions make sense.
Next, in order to develop the student’s editing skills, ask them to choose at least one sentence to improve, looking for capital letters, full stops and synonyms (a similar but more powerful/interesting word). Ask your student to read out the sentence before and after the changes they have made.
Discuss how the changes improve the sentence (may be more interesting, correctly punctuated etc).
Extra Challenge
Once any changes have been made, students can play the following game:
PLAY - Pirate Treasure Hunt (Scootle)
Spelling
Use Spelling Frame to review this week's spellings. Click Spelling Tiles and Sorting Segments, then Begin to practise the words your student is learning this week. There may be some words they haven't learned, but ask them to try their best.
