Today's Lesson

Spelling

Take the spelling test by asking your student to write the words they have been learning this week.

Main Activity

Tell your student that today their job is to edit the rough draft they completed yesterday. As they have done with previous pieces of writing, they should read their writing aloud to make sure they have not left out any words or put them in where they don’t belong. Remind them that they are always trying to create pictures in the minds of their readers. Ask them to choose at least ONE sentence to improve, looking for capital letters, full stops and synonyms (a similar but more powerful/interesting word).

Now, using the checklist, ask your student to tick off all the features that have been included in the story. What did they do well? What would they do differently next time?
