Today's Lesson
Spelling
Review spelling words to prepare for your test at the end of the week. You may wish to use the Practice/Test option on Spelling Frame. Choose Begin Practice.
Main Activity
Explain to your student that in today’s lesson, the conclusion of the newspaper article will be written along with captions for photos/pictures that will be included.
Begin by reminding your student what the conclusion looks like for a newspaper article. Read through the highlighted section of Conclusion for Newspaper Report and ask them to tell you what needs to be included. The second page highlights the key points. Hopefully they remember (or spot), it’s telling the reader what is happening now (or will happen in the future). It is likely that in this paragraph the tense will change to the present or future tense.

Using their plan from Lesson 3 (and Results of the Roll the Dice Game if useful), ask your student to write the conclusion for their newspaper article under the main body. They may find the Newspaper Word Mat helpful. Remember not to worry too much about spellings, grammar, etc as this will be addressed at the editing stage.

Once they have done this, they can sketch or find photos for their article and write captions for them. If necessary, remind your student of Week 10, Lesson 4 where they looked at writing captions.
