Today's Lesson

Spelling

Look at the words below and do a pre-test. This means that you are checking how well your student can spell these words before you teach them. You do not need to focus on the words your student spelled correctly the first time.

Rule: Word list -years 3 and 4 -pro- to sen-

  • probably
  • promise
  • purpose
  • quarter
  • question

Practise saying and writing these words in sentences throughout the week.

Main Activity

Use this lesson to encourage your student to recommend some of their favourite books or texts to you or to someone else. This lesson may merely take the form of a discussion about the books, asking your student to tell you about them, and why they are recommending them to you. However, your student may wish to make a poster, fact file, character description, front cover, etc, about their favourite book or books. This lesson will continue next week. (NOTE: You may wish to look at Week 34 Lesson One in advance, in order to prepare for next week's lesson).

Grammar check

Watch the following video and then t****urn to page 42 in Nelson Grammar Pupil Book 3and work through the information in the purple box at the top of the page.

Clarify that your student understands which nouns need a capital letter - these are called proper nouns if they are names. Capital letters are also needed for titles.

Ask your student to complete ‘Focus’, ‘Practice’ and ‘Extension’ on pages 42 and 43.
