PRACTISE - Spelling Frame

Main Activity

Over the next few lessons, we will be reading parts of a story called Fantastic Mr Fox by Roald Dahl. Access the Chapter 10 resource and read it with your student. Take turns to read out loud, showing how to show expression, stopping at full stops, pausing at commas which show clauses, and using interesting voices for characters speaking. Also expect your student to spend some of the reading time to read to themselves, silently in their head.

📄 READ - Chapter 10 resource

Once read, discuss the story - the characters - who are they? The plot so far - what is happening? Why?

Grammar check

Turn to page 22 in Nelson Grammar Pupil Book 3 - Unit 9 Adjectives. Work through the information in the purple box at the top of the page.

Clarify that your student understands the how adjectives describe nouns, and can give examples of comparative and superlative adjectives.

Ask your student to complete ‘Focus’ on page 22. If you feel they need some extra reinforcement, ask them to complete ‘Practice’ and ‘Extension’ on page 23, even by just discussing the examples of adjectives rather than writing them all down.

If time, apply some grammar skills by doing some hunting through Chapter 10, colour coding them using a different colour for each:

  • Find five verbs
  • Find five adjectives
  • Find five nouns
