Main Activity
Start the lesson by revisiting the work from Lesson 1. Explain to your student that today they will look at different types of nouns. Remind your student what a pronoun is if they have forgotten the term - a word that takes the place of a noun.
Remind your student that there are different types of nouns: common nouns (a general name for a person, place, or thing), proper nouns (a specific name for a particular person, place, or thing and has a capital letter) and pronouns (a word that takes the place of a noun).
Watch the following video that will explain these different types of noun in more detail.
Now, using the Noun Hunt resource sheet, ask your student to look around the house/garden and note down any nouns they can see/think of that are a pronoun, a common noun and a proper noun.
If time, using the Hidden Objects sheet from yesterday’s lesson, ask your student to write 3 full sentences, making sure to include adjectives and a range of nouns. After, encourage them to underline the adjectives and circle the different types of nouns used in the sentences.
To recap on learning from today's lesson, ask your student,
- ‘What is the role of an adjective?’
- ‘What is the role of a pronoun?’
- How can we identify a proper noun?
