Today's Lesson

Spelling

Take the spelling test by asking your student to write the words they have been learning this week.

Main Activity

Explain to your student that in today’s lesson, the main part of the newspaper article will be written (the conclusion will be written in Step 12).

Begin by reminding your student what the main body looks like for a newspaper article. Read through the highlighted section of Main Body for Newspaper Report and ask them to tell you what needs to be included. The second page highlights the key points. Hopefully they remember (or spot), it’s written in the past tense, third person, quotes, facts about the main event, paragraphs.

READ - Main Body for Newspaper Report

Using their plan from Lesson 3 (and Results of the Roll the Dice Game if useful), ask your student to write the main body for their newspaper article under the introduction. They may find the Newspaper Word Mat helpful. Remember not to worry too much about spellings, grammar, etc as this will be addressed at the editing stage.
