PRACTISE - Spelling Frame

Main Activity

Recap with your student and ask β€˜How are non-chronological reports different from stories?’ What are the features of a non-chronological report? Can you remember any?

Remind your student that they will be writing their own non-chronological report. Share with them that it will be about an animal.

Explain to your student that you will spend some time looking at conjunctions today. Can your student remember what a conjunction is? Explain it is a word that acts as a 'joining word', connecting pairs or groups of words and clauses in a sentence together. Explain that when writing a report, the student will use both short sentences and longer sentences using conjunctions, to write in a varied way to interest the reader.

Now watch the following video which will discuss how we use conjunctions in writing in more detail.

Watch the videoΒ to remind the student about conjunctions and how to use them.

Access the Conjunctions Display posters to remind your student of the different types of conjunctions.

Demonstrate how to join two clauses using Different Types of Conjunction worksheet. Ask your student to complete when they feel confident to start.

For a fun optional extra there is also the White Bus Conjunctions song your student can watch:
