PRACTISE - Spelling Frame

Main Activity

Today, look at editing and improving the piece of writing your student and you wrote yesterday. Sometimes, when we focus on openers, the writing can sound a bit ‘forced’ and unnatural at first. We realise we might need to add in some sentences that start with ‘less forced’ openers. E.g. openers like The… A… It… are all still very important and useful openers, and they can help the writing flow and sound more natural.

Ask your student to read the writing from yesterday again, and help them to decide whether some extra sentences which start with e.g. The… A… It… are needed. Practise drafting some of these extra sentences underneath the writing or on separate paper. It helps here if it is done in a different colour, so that we can see the progress of our work on the paper.

Then, support your student to produce a final draft of the writing about the picture, focusing on keeping the different openers that worked well, and adding in sentences with e.g. The… A… It… or indeed any other opener that suits the writing.
