Main Activity
Access the Conjunctions PowerPoint resource about conjunctions in compound sentences. Look through the slides together and ask your student, when prompted, to choose the best conjunction to link the two main clauses together.
Remind them that they are making compound sentences here, and this task is to focus on the different conjunctions that we can use to link two main clauses together.
📊 COMPLETE - Conjunctions PowerPoint
When you have worked through the activity, go through the slides again if needed, to reinforce and practise.
At this point, you may also wish to watch the following video which will further support your student in selecting appropriate co-ordinating conjunctions to complete given sentences.
Then, ask your student to write three of their own compound sentences which are joined together with the conjunctions:
- and
- but
- so
These are the most useful and common conjunctions when writing compound sentences.
