Main Activity

Today, your student will draft their own poem, using similes as a structure. They can write it in their own way, but reading some simile poems online or in books may help them to prepare their ideas if they are still feeling a little unconfident with similes.

EITHER: access the Simile prompt cards resource, and ask them to choose as many simile starters as they wish to write their own poem.

OR: Choose a noun, e.g. the sun; the wind; chocolate; the ocean; space; a monster, etc. When chosen, write a simile poem all about their chosen noun.

They could use plain paper to plan their ideas, and lined paper to write the poem. Today is just the first draft, with redrafting tomorrow.
