Main Activity

Lay out the Roman Gods and Goddesses Cards. Which gods are we familiar with? Look at the descriptions of the gods and goddesses (in resources) and ask them to see if they can identify the god from the description. Support your student to match descriptions to pictures.

Remind your student of how gods sometimes got involved in the affairs of humans; humans asked them for help or the actions of humans upset them. Would all gods respond in the same way to a problem?

Look at the Shared Scenario resource and discuss together. Ask your student to choose the most likely gods to intervene (Venus & Cupid).

Discuss ideas and model recording together as a quick story map. Keep this map for Lesson Two.

Access the Scenarios resource and ask your student to read and choose scenarios, thinking about which gods/goddesses would respond to the problems.

Ask: What would they do? What would they say? Explore ideas through discussion. Then, your student should record story plans as a story map.
