Main Activity

Access Pinpoint Comprehension Unit 3 -The Tale of Peter Rabbit (Note: this is the PDF version in the resource list).

Discuss the text with your student. Ask: is it fiction or non-fiction? How do we know? It is fiction because it is a story. It is by an author called Beatrix Potter. Take it in turns to read paragraphs of the story out loud, modelling good expression and fluency to your student, and expecting them to adopt this good practice themselves.

Discuss the text in detail by asking your student questions which check their understanding. Ask them several questions which start with β€˜Why...?’ to encourage them to infer and deduce information.

Underline any new words and phrases, and discuss their meaning, encouraging the use of a traditional dictionary to look up unfamiliar words.

Read and answer the questions on the S sheet.
