Main Activity

Re-read the story that you read in Lesson 1. Perhaps your student could read more of it out loud today.

๐Ÿ“„ READ - Stories From Other Cultures

Tell your student that it was only recently that this tale would have been put down in writing, and that for most of its existence it would have been told orally, e.g. a grandpa telling it to his grandson, or an auntie to her niece.

Ask your student: What do you think would happen each time a story is told? Prompt them to say things like: the animals might have been changed, the events, the speech, the setting, etc. We all do this when we are telling stories in everyday life, e.g. a dog escaping in the park. When a person re-tells this they may exaggerate the size of the ram or how fast it was running or how aggressive it was to make the story sound more exciting but the main points will stay the same!

What are the main events in the story? Discuss this with your student andย using the Sequencing Template, jot down the key events in the story.
