Today's Lesson

Spelling

Take the spelling test by asking your student to write the words they have been learning this week.

Introduction

Today your student will edit the rough draft of the letter they wrote yesterday and do a final draft.

Main Activity

Explain to your student that they must edit for spellings and grammar. They should read the letter aloud and make sure they have not left out (omitted) any words or added in words where they didn’t need to. If they are unsure of how something is spelt, they should look it up. They can do this using a different coloured pen or pencil to the one they wrote in on their draft. Ask them to choose at least ONE sentence to improve, looking for capital letters, full stops and synonyms (a similar but more powerful/interesting word).

Once edits are complete (it is okay to have an adult check over this) your student should complete a final draft paying particular attention to handwriting and presentation. Encourage your student to send their letter to their chosen author and see if they get a reply!
