Today's Lesson

Spelling

Remember to keep using the Making Spellings Memorable resource to focus on spellings.

Main Activity

Explain that today your student will complete their myth, then work to proof-read and improve it.

Model some ideas for writing the end of the myth. A myth ending usually involves writing until you've finished your explanation, or until the hero has defeated all the challenges and learned his/her lesson. Often, a myth ends with a sentence explaining why the story is related to the present day. Refer to myths that you have already read to help, if necessary. Your student should then write the last paragraph to complete their myth.

Once finished, have a break from the myth writing, if necessary.

Explain that your student can use the Features of a Myth Checklist to evaluate their myth and find ways to improve them. Have they included everything necessary for a myth?

Now, ask your student to read through the myth and edit at least TWO sentences looking for spelling, capital letters & full stops, and synonyms (words that are similar, but more interesting). Remember to use a different coloured pen/pencil.

They should then work with you to reread and discuss their writing, using the checklist in Assignment 6 and above to structure discussion and make improvement suggestions.

Your student should then make improvements to their writing.

If you run out of time, continue the editing in the next lesson.

Assignment

Please ensure you submit your reading and grammar parts of the Assignment 6 at the same time as the writing task.
