Main Activity
As a mental warm up, call out some random 2 digit numbers and ask your student to add them together mentally, using whichever strategy works best for them.
Turn to page 77 in Abacus 4 Textbook 3 and discuss the calculations with your student.
This video will show you how to use a bar model to approach the first two questions.
The problems have more than one operation within the question.
Ask your student to identify the operations and explain to you how they would go about working the problems out.
Once you are happy that your student has shown a good understanding of the concepts, encourage them to work independently to complete the page.
Your student may use whichever method of multiplication they feel most comfortable with.
