Main Activity

New students should practise the 11 times table.

Call out a few simple fractions where the numerator can be reduced to one, and ask your student to simplify them. For example:

10/20, 12/36, 9/27

Turn to page 64 in Abacus 4 Textbook 1.

Recap using Expanded Addition Methods - Recap (YouTube) or the 'Addition' video if needed.

Watch Column Addition with money (YouTube) and discuss how simple it is to add money too.

Discuss the ‘Think’ question with your student, encouraging them to suggest strategies of how to tackle the question. Do the same for Question 13. Ask your student to complete the calculations on the page.
