Today's Lesson

Main Activity

Turn to page 37 in Abacus 4 Textbook 2.

Watch the ‘Symmetry’ video to understand lines of symmetry in shapes.

Ask your student to define a triangle, quadrilateral, pentagon and hexagon.

Triangle – a polygon (2D shape) with 3 straight sides.

Quadrilateral – a polygon (2D shape) with 4 straight sides.

Pentagon – a polygon (2D shape) with 5 straight sides.

Hexagon – a polygon (2D shape) with 6 straight sides.

Once your student has shown a good understanding of the shapes, ask them to complete questions 1–6 by drawing the shapes beside each board.

Look at questions 7–12 with your student. Ask them to indicate which diagrams are possible or impossible, explaining why.

If required, watch the ‘Angles’ and ‘Parallel and perpendicular’ videos from previous sessions to recap vocabulary.
