Today's Lesson
Main Activity
For the mental warm ups each day, ask your student to face North again.
Then give more direction instructions, but this time also involve the directions North East, North West, South East and South West. If you have access to an outside/paved area, it might be helpful to draw a compass with chalk on the ground for your child to refer to if they need reminding of the new directions.
Turn to page 64 in Abacus 4 Textbook 3.
Talk about the difference between the 3 and 4 digit numbers with your child, but stress the importance of place value being more important than the number of digits.Β
For example Q2 would be set out like this:
| Thousands | Hundreds | Tens | Ones | |
| 5 | 5 | 2 | 4 | |
| - | 9 | 5 | 7 | |
Ask your student to copy and complete the subtraction calculations on the page. Remind them to include a word sentence with the answer to the problems.
