Main Activity
Ask your student to recite two different times tables and then ask them to answer random questions on these.
Turn to page 18 & 19 in Abacus 4 Textbook 1.
Watch the ‘Missing numbers’ video to understand how to find missing numbers on a number line.
Look at the number lines with your student and ask them to explain to you how they intend to figure out what each tag represents.
If this concept is difficult for your student, draw attention to the scale. Each line is 100 divisions long. Ask what half of 100 is and what a quarter of 100 is (or what number would be halfway between 0 and half of 100).
Draw attention to the halfway mark on each line and ask your student what number that would be. You could use a ruler to help to remind your student about scales, and about how they always increase in an even manner. That is, the distance between each of the divisions on a scale is the same. For example, a scale could go up in ones, fives or tens.
Once your student is comfortable with identifying positions on each line, ask them to write the value of each tag underneath it. Do not try to fit the number on the actual tag.
Complete the number lines on P18 and P19.
