Today's Lesson
Main Activity
Ask your child to recite two more times tables and to answer random questions on these. The questions can also include divisions.
Turn to page 24 in Abacus 4 Textbook 2.
Remind your student that to easily multiply a number by 4, they can double it and the double the answer.
For example 32 x 4:
Double 32 = 64 and double 64 = 128 so 32 x 4 = 128
Similarly, dividing by 4, they can halve the number and halve it again.
For example 68 \div 4:
Half of 68 = 34 and half of 34 = 17 so 68 \div 4 = 17
Ask your student to complete questions 1 β 10 using the strategies mentioned above.
Before starting question 11, watch this video which talks you through some of the word problems.
Ask your student to copy and complete questions 11 β 16 using whatever method they prefer. Remind your student to answer word problem questions with a sentence answer as well as a calculation and to include any units of measure.
Encourage your student to work independently.
