Today's Lesson
Main Activity
For the mental warm-up, ask your student to count forwards in multiples of 5 beginning with a random two digit number.
For example, 23, 28, 33, 38 … to as close to 100 as they can get. Your child should establish the pattern fairly quickly. Repeat this for about ten numbers.
Turn to page 21 in Abacus 4 Textbook 3.
Remind your student of the previous lesson and of how to round up, if the 1-place decimal is 5 or more.
Complete the game in section 7 on Rounding Decimals (MyMaths) to check their understanding.
The first two sections are the same as exercises tackled in the previous lesson.
Ask your student to read the problems aloud and to tell you what they think is required.
This video focuses on supporting you through Questions 15-16.
Once they have shown a good understanding, ask your student to copy and complete the page. Remind them of the importance of including a sentence answer to word problems and to include the unit of measure.
Discuss the ‘Think’ question with your student. Will they remember the negative numbers when rounding to 0?
