Today's Lesson
Main Activity
If your student does not know their times tables, choose one per week to learn throughout the course of the term. Students who have been working with this program for the past year will already have learnt their times tables up to 12x.
Use Mixed Tables (MyMaths) to play games to practise times tables.
Turn to page 11 in Abacus 4 Textbook 1.
This page is identical to the previous lesson, where your student was adding multiples of ten, by ignoring the zeros until the end of the calculation. Point out that provided the number of zeros is identical in both numbers, you can add the single digit numbers and then add the zeros back at the end.
Watch the ‘Adding multiple numbers’ video up to 5:16 for some examples.
Ask your student to copy and complete the calculations up to Q3.
Now, watch the rest of the ‘Adding multiple numbers’ video (from 5:17) to understand the ‘Think’ challenge.
Ask your student to look for the pattern in the numbers and to compete the ‘Think’ question.
