Times Tables
Remember to login to TT Rockstars to practise your times tables at least 5 times a week.
Main Activity
For new students to the Wolsey Hall programme, please learn the 6 times table throughout the course of the week, as well as doing the other mental warm ups.Β The 5 times table has been skipped for this week, as the textbook addresses the 6 times table and will complement the work your student is doing for the warm ups.
Call out any two digit number at random and ask your student to count back to zero (or as close as they can get to zero) in tens from that number. For example:
82, 72, 62...12, 2Β Β
Do this for about ten numbers. Then call out a three digit number and ask your student to count back in tens until the hundred barrier has been crossed. For example, ask them to count back in tens from 135 to 65 or from 344 to 284. Once your student is comfortable with crossing the hundreds barrier, begin the lesson.
Turn to page 24 in Abacus 4 Textbook 1.
Use Frog Method Subtraction (YouTube) or Subtraction by counting back (YouTube) to recap if needed.
Half of the calculations are to be completed using the count up (βfrogβ) method.Β However, the take away numbers are now larger and will cross the hundreds barrier, as well as the tens barriers. Ask your student to copy and complete the calculations, using the methods specified.
