Today's Lesson
Main Activity
For a mental warm-up, use the calculations on page 90 in Abacus 4 Textbook 2.
Turn to page 14 in Abacus 4 Textbook 3.
The ordering of decimal numbers should be fairly straightforward for your student to complete. However, the worded questions might be unfamiliar. Remind your student that the digit immediately to the right of the decimal point is how many tenths we are dealing with, and the digit two spaces to the right of the decimal is for hundredths. Therefore, five and six-tenths and two-hundredths will look like this: 5.62.
Writing the numbers into a place value grid might be a useful support to begin with, e.g.
| ones 1s | β | tenths 1**/10s** | hundredths 1**/100s** |
| 5 | β | 6 | 2 |
Once you feel that your student has understood this, ask them to complete the page.
