Today's Lesson
Main Activity
Turn to page 23 in Abacus 4 Textbook 2.
Watch the โFunction machinesโ video up to 2:47.
Recap with your student how all the different numbers are fed into the function machines, but the calculations are always the same. Each calculation is to be written out as the following:
| 46 x 2 = 92 | 92 x 2 = 184 | so 46 x 4 = 184 |
Draw attention to the different operation symbols in the other function machines.
Now complete Q1 โ 5.
Watch the next part of the video (2:50 โ 4:10) and then ask your child to complete Q6 โ 10.
Now, watch the next part of the video (4:10 โ 6:14) before asking your student to complete Q11 โ 15.
Before completing Q16 โ 20, watch the remainder of the video from 6:15.
By this stage, your student should feel comfortable multiplying single digit numbers by 3-digit numbers, as there has been a great deal of practice of this, using the grid method.
