Main Activity
For the mental warm up, ask your student to count back in 2s from 100 to 0.
Turn to page 71 in Abacus 4 Textbook 3 and look at the bar graph with your student.Β
Ask them to tell you about the information that can be obtained from the graph. Watch 'Bar Charts' to see an example of a range of questions.
Look at the bar chart for Q1-4 on P71. Draw attention to the scale on the y-axis of the graph.
Ask your student to complete Q1-4.
Watch 'Pictograms' to understand how to interpret a pictogram.
Look at the pictogram for Q5 β 7 on P71 and ask your student to explain this to you.
Once you are happy that your student is comfortable with the concepts of working with graphs and pictograms, ask your student to answer the questions, using information gathered from the diagrams.
Do attempt the βThinkβ section at the bottom of the page. Can your student interpret the data given without having to represent it visually?
