Today's Lesson
Main Activity
Talk about the 24 hour clock with your student. As time questions have been included in recent mental warm ups, your student should be familiar with this. If they do still have difficulty with the concept, remind them to add 10 and then 2 (12 hours) to the afternoon time to find the 24 hour time.
For example, 3 o’clock in the afternoon or 3.00pm: 3 + 12 = 15; the 24 hour time is 15.00
Watch the video to recap the 24 hour clock.
Run through activities 3 and 4 on Analogue and Digital Clocks (MyMaths) to recap analogue and digital times.
Turn to page 71 in Abacus 4 Textbook 2. Scan or copy the page, so that your student can write directly on the paper beneath the visual aids. Ask your student to tell you the analogue times from the digital clocks. Then, ask for the digital times in 24 hour time for the second half of the page.
Once you feel that your student has demonstrated a good understanding, allow them to work independently on the exercises.
