Main Activity
Turn to page 52 in Abacus 4 Textbook 1.
Watch the ‘Halving 3-digit numbers’ video, which was introduced yesterday, to recap on partitioning when halving 3-digit numbers.
Ask your child to copy and complete the top section independently, as the calculations are identical to those of the previous lesson. Look at Question 15. Point out that it does not affect the way we carry out the calculation if there is a decimal point in the number we start with. Remember that when working with money (English pounds and pence), there are always two digits to the right of the decimal point.
For example: Three pounds and twenty pence is written as £3.20 and not £3.2
Once your child has completed the calculations, they simply need to place the decimal point two places in from the right, in order to separate pounds and pence. Remind your child to include a sentence answer to word problems, as well as the unit of measure.
