Today's Lesson

Main Activity

Ask your student to recite two times tables, then to answer random questions on these, including division questions.

Turn to page 27 in Abacus 4 Textbook 2.

In exactly the same way as for the two previous lessons, ask your student to break down the numbers to find the fractions on the page. Watch the ‘Fractions of amounts’ video, which was introduced yesterday, to recap if needed.

Remind your student that they must find the unit fraction, before a fraction with a larger numerator can be found.

Encourage your student to copy and complete the first half of the page independently. You may need to help your student to solve the puzzle questions in the second half of the page. Ask your student to read the questions aloud and if necessary, help to explain how to work out the answer. However, your student should carry out the calculations themselves.

Extra Activities

You might like to try the homework activity on the My Portal section of MyMaths to practise this skill further.
