Today's Lesson

Main Activity

At the beginning of the lesson, call out some larger 2 digit numbers to be divided by a single digit number. There can be remainders.

For example:

23 ÷ 5 =

49 ÷ 7 =

Turn to page 42 in Abacus 4 Textbook 3.

Ask your student to copy and complete each subtraction calculation, in order to establish which the longest distance is.  A ‘Frog’ calculation might be the best way to solve some of these if your student has difficulty holding the numbers in their head.

Look at the chart on page 43.

This video will help recap on equivalent fractions using the fraction wall.

Using the visual aid, ask your student to complete the equivalent fractions.

Your student may either write in the textbook, or on to a copy of the page.

Look at the fractions with your student and draw attention to the connection between the top (numerator) and bottom (denominator) numbers of both fractions, so that they can see the calculations needed to make other equivalents.

In the second half of the page, ask your student to work independently to complete Questions 7 – 12.
