Welcome to the Wolsey Hall Year 2 Mathematics course.
We've designed the course so that it's a three way partnership between you, your student and the Wolsey Hall team. We will do all we can to ensure your student gets the best possible start to their education but we will need you to play your part in the process also.
We recommend that you take the time to go through this introduction before starting work with your student as it provides useful tips for supporting your student on the course.

Structure of the Course
Each Part of the course is divided into twelve steps indicated by the Step icon.
Each step contains five lesson plans covering the learning material for that step. How you work through these lessons is up to you and your student: you may wish to complete more than one lesson per day for example. Every student is different so we've designed the course to be flexible and geared to the individual needs of your student.
This course is designed to take around 5****hours of study across one week.
However, every child is different, and this time is flexible.
Some students may need more time on a particular step of study, and others may complete it more quickly. This can depend on things such as:
-
their previous knowledge of the topic
-
their confidence and maturity
-
their concentration levels
-
how they prefer to learn
Please be assured that it is completely fine if your child spends more or less time than the suggested 5 hours. The course is designed to support different learning speeds and styles.
Equipment
Developing Maths understanding at a younger age often includes the use of practical resources. To help you prepare for this, please see the 📄 Year 2 Equipment List which provides an overview of the items needed.
Assessment
Every three steps there will be an assignment for your student to complete and send to the Wolsey Hall tutor.
Clicking on Assignments in the left-hand bar menu will take you to the course assignments.
Clicking on Grades in the left-hand bar menu will take you to your Grades for each assignment your student has completed.
Assignments are marked by the tutor. Their feedback on your student’s assignments outlines the areas of strength and the next step, or steps, in learning for your student. This is the most important aspect of the information provided by your tutor following an assignment.
Feedback is an important part of the assessment process. It can have a significant effect on student learning. Next step, or steps, help a student to extend the learning further. It is important for our students to understand that the feedback provided by their tutor is the most important part of the marking and feedback process.
Grades are issued as a percentage out of 100. It is important to note that students are unlikely to receive 100% all the time, across all their subjects. The assignments are designed to provide a level of challenge to our students and receiving grades of less than 100% indicates that your student is on a learning journey, which is to be celebrated.
For Primary ages it isimportant to focus on the areas of strength being shown in learning, the effort being shown by a student, and the next steps in learning provided by the tutor. This is how our students will make progress in their learning and fly!
On this course assignment grades indicate the following level of knowledge, understanding and application of learning:
| Working Towards | On Track | Exceeding |
| 70 - 79% | 80 - 89% | 90 - 100% |
