What to Get Ready

Look through the 📄 Problem Solving Tasks and familiarise yourself with the tasks.

Consolidate

To practise recall of doubles, ask your student to access Hit the Button and practise doubles at whichever level provides the best challenge, e.g. to 10; from 5 – 15, etc.

ACCESS - Hit the Button (TopMarks)

Challenge your student to play each of these times tables twice through, beating their score on the 2nd go.

Introduction

Work through the 📄 Problem solving tasks with your student.

Discuss the possible ways to solve each of the problems, e.g. using pictures to draw the problem, and using concrete apparatus such as counters and cubes.

Main Activity

Ask your student to work through the problems, recording their working out in the spaces provided.

Encourage as much talk as possible, especially during and after they have solved each task.

To help your student to recap previous learning from this course, please ask them to complete the activities on page 43 of Abacus Workbook 3.
