Today's Lesson
What to Get Ready
Read through and familiarise yourself with the 📄 Nines to zeros investigation.
Specifically read the section entitled ‘Conjecture’. A conjecture is a theory which should either be proven or disproven. See below for how to explain this to your student.
Introduction
Explain the 📄 Nines to zeros investigation task to your student so that they are familiar with how they should carry out the task.
Tell them that you are going to read out a statement and it is up to them to work out whether this is true or not.
Read out the ‘Conjecture’ to your student and discuss. If they are unsure, tell them that the activity will help them to understand.
Give them the example:
If we add 9 to the number 35, will we eventually reach a multiple of 10?
Allow your student to think about this and to discuss their thoughts with you.
Main Activity
Work through the task as specified up to Question 5. Support your student where necessary, encouraging them to discuss as much as they can out loud as they think through the problem.
Workbook
To help your student consolidate their learning from today, please ask them to complete the activities on page 7 of Abacus Workbook 2.
