Today's Lesson
Introduction
Watch this video together.
Be ready to pause the video and take time to answer the questions asked.
Have your decimeter strip or ruler ready to use.
This is an important step to ensure that your student develops accuracy in their use of a ruler and of their measuring skills.
Main Activity
Take some time to consolidate your student’s accurate measuring skills by asking them measure different objects from around the house. Ask them to record their measuring on a whiteboard.
For example: pencil = 7cm
Extra Support
Support your student in becoming an accurate measurer. Ensure that their decimeter strip is lined up with the end of the object.
Extra Challenge
Ask your student to record all of the items that they are measuring. Then ask, which item was the longest/shortest? How do you know?
Workbook
To help your student consolidate their learning from today, please ask them to complete the activities on page 46 of Abacus Workbook 1.
This video supports the task in the Workbook.
