Today's Lesson

Introduction

Watch this doubling video with your student. Watch up to 4 minutes and 7 seconds.Β 

Discuss how doubling creates the doubles facts in the video.Β  Talk about how doubling is when you add a number to itself.Β  For example, double 2 is the same as 2 +2.Β Β 

Ask your student some doubles facts that to write down all the doubles facts they know:Β 

Double 1 =Β 

Double 2 =

Double 3 =Β 

Double 4 =Β 

Double 5 =

Main Activity

Access the πŸ“„ Doubles Facts Problems Challenges, and ask your student to choose one to read out loud.

Work with them to say and then write the doubles fact (see πŸ“„ Doubles Facts Problems - Answers).

Once they have worked through all of the challenges (or as many as you deem suitable for their confidence and understanding), set them a challenge where you time them to see how many doubles facts they can learn. For example, read the problem from the card, say the doubles fact.

Can they complete a certain amount in 30 seconds? Can they beat their score?

How long would it take to complete, e.g. 6, 10?

Keep encouraging them to learn their doubles facts in this way, trying to get quicker and quicker.
