Today's Lesson

Introduction

Before you start the lesson, watch this Recap Video with your student.

Ask your student to use the Interactive Place Value resources to add together 65 and 24.

EXPLORE - Interactive Place Value (Mathsframe)

Ask: ‘What is the total of the 10s? And the total of the 1s? Altogether?’

Record:

65 + 24

= 60 + 20 + 5 + 4

= 80 + 9

= 89

Write 43 + 21, 42 + 37, 48 + 32, and 54 + 35 on paper.

Ask your student to work them out using the above recording strategy.

Main Activity

Ask your student to complete the 📄 Adding pairs of 2-digit numbers tasks.

Extra Challenge

Say: ‘Here’s the answer: 56. Now what was the question?’

Challenge your student to find pairs of numbers with a total of 56. They should record their answers.

Once they reach five options, they should then move on to pairs with a total of 72, then 95.
