Assignment
This lesson works towards Assignment 7. Please access the assignment for details about what you will need to submit to your student's Wolsey Hall tutor.
Introduction
Before you start the lesson, watch this Recap Video with your student.
Show your student the home-made greater than / less than sign from Lesson 2. Ask them to tell you how it compares two numbers and their values. Depending on their confidence and understanding, spend time on practising this with cubes as you did during Lesson 2.
Consolidate
Ask your student to complete the 📄 Finding inequalities activities sheets. You will also need the 0-100 beaded line for this task.
Explain that an ‘inequality’ is a word we use when two numbers are not equal, so this is why we need the greater than or less than sign.
Encourage your student to explain their thinking as they work. Ask questions like:
- Why does the number go in that position on the beaded number line?
- How do you know the number is less than your number?
- How do you know the number is greater than your number?
Film a short clip (maximum 5 minutes) of your student completing the above task sheet.
Assignment
At the end of this lesson, please submit the short film clip for Assignment 7.
