Today's Lesson
Introduction
Watch the video with your student:
Pause the video regularly to discuss where we would find examples of the different shapes around us.
Main Activity
Ask your student to use their whiteboard and pen to have a go at drawing the shapes as they watch.
At the end of the video begin describing some 2d shapes for your student.
For example:
-
My shape has one curved side and no vertices (corners)…what am I?
-
My shape has 4 vertices (corners), it has 4 straight sides, each side is the same length.
Repeat with other shape descriptions.
Can they draw what you are describing? Can they name the shape?
Then swap jobs. Explain that is now your student’s job to describe the shapes and your job to draw the shapes. They can then let you know if you have accurately drawn their shape.
