Today's Lesson

What to Get Ready

Access the 📄 Problem solving tasks ahead of the lesson and look through the questions and answers so that you are familiar with the thinking and reasoning that you should expect from your student.

All questions are based on addition and subtraction, and some are linked closely to the lessons from this step.

Introduction

Before you start the lesson, watch this Recap Video with your student.

Main Activity

Introduce the 📄 Problem solving tasks by telling your student that you will work with them through the tasks. The tasks are there to help your student use the skills they have learnt this step.

Remind your student that you will be asking them to explain their mathematical thinking by asking, ‘How do you know…?’ and, ‘Can you explain your answer?’ throughout the lesson.

Access the 📄 Problem solving tasks sheet and work through the questions with your student.

Encourage your student to record their working where possible, either next to the questions or on separate piece of paper.

Assignment

At the end of this lesson, please submit the completed **Assignment 2**to your student's Wolsey Hall tutor. (This was completed during Step 6 Lesson 3.)
