Today's Lesson

Introduction

Explain to your student that the next few lessons are about solid shapes. They are also called 3D shapes.

Ask: β€˜How are these different to 2D shapes?’ (They are not flat, they are made up of flat shapes put together to make a solid shape.)

Ask your student to watch the video:

Discuss the video with them as they watch it. Pause it after each new shape is introduced. Can they remember any of the words from the Vocabulary section, which are mentioned in the video?

Tell them that there will be the chance to explore these words further in the lessons this step.

Main Activity

Go on a 3d shape hunt around your home.

Discuss the shapes that they find around them. Can they name the shape? How do they know? There are lots of 3d shapes to learn and remember!

Some might be similar to, for example, a cube. Discuss how a cube is different to a cuboid in terms of the shapes of the faces that make up each of these shapes.
