Today's Lesson

Introduction

Before you start the lesson, watch this Recap Video with your student.

Consolidate

Use today’s lesson to consolidate doubling numbers to 20.

You might find that your student needs to repeat the main activity from Lesson 3, or some of the input from the Introduction to that lesson.

They may like to play a doubling game using the 📄 1-20 number cards. For example, show them a number and they double it as quickly as they can. Find a way to score points!

Additionally, use Hit the Button on Topmarks Online to practise doubling as a quick-fire way of doubles recall.

PRACTISE - Hit the Button (Topmarks)

Extra Support

Repeat a game of pairs’ using the 📄 1-20 number cards.

Begin by using number cards 1-5, then 1-10

Extra Challenge

Can your student use their knowledge of number doubles to calculate ‘near doubles’.

For example ‘I know that double 6 is 12 so 6+7 must equal 13.’

Try this with other number doubles too.

Workbook

To help your student consolidate their learning from today, please ask them to complete the activities on page 14 of Abacus Workbook 1.
