Today's Lesson

Introduction

ACCESS - Interactive Number Grid (Mathsframe)

Together with your student, count on in 2s to 50, marking the 2s on the number grid as you do.

Repeat, but this time expect your student to take more control in saying the next multiples of 2 as they count. Repeat as necessary to gain in confidence.

Next, ask your student to count on together in 2s from 52 to 100, marking them on the grid as they count. Can they spot and describe a pattern? (There is a pattern of vertical stripes on the grid.)

Without resetting the grid, count on in 5s to 50, again noting the stripe pattern.

Ask:

  • 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 are marked in the pattern for 2s and for 5s, is that right?

Agree that multiples of 10 are also multiples of 2 and 5.

Reset the grid, then count on in 3s, marking the numbers on the grid to 48.

Ask:

  • Which of these numbers are also multiples of 2? (6 times table)
  • Which of these numbers are also multiples of 5? (15, 30, 45)
  • Which number is a multiple of 2, 3 and 5? (30)

Main Activity

Ask your student to practise counting in 2s, 5s, 10s and 3s on Paint the Squares.

PRACTISE - Paint the Squares (TopMarks)

Select the 1-100 grid and challenge your student to select a colour for each pattern. For example, red for 2s, blue for 5s, and so on.

Extra Challenge

Time your student to count in 2s to 50.

Challenge them to try to beat their score.

Repeat with 5s to 70.

Repeat with 10s to 100.

Repeat with 3s to 39.
