ACCESS - Hit the Button (TopMarks)
Introduction
Tell your student that you have bought 7 packets of football stickers, and that each packet has 5 stickers.
Ask them to think and then talk with you about how they would work out how many stickers you have altogether.
Agree that you have 7 lots of 5 stickers.
Model drawing this as an array (7 × 5)
Then show on the 📄 0**–50 beaded line** with 7 hops of 5.
Now say that you have bought 7 packets of hair bobbles; each packet contains 3 bobbles.
Ask your student to work out how many you have altogether by drawing an array and then by using the beaded line.
Agree that you have 21 bobbles.
Main Activity
Your student should pull a 📄 Multiplication word problem (Sheet 1 problems are easier; Sheet 2 problems are harder).
Ask them to solve it using a beaded line. Sheet 2 problems will require a 📄 0-100 beaded line.
Workbook
To help your student recap upon previous learning from this course, please ask them to complete the activities on page 31 of Abacus Workbook 3.
